spring
Photo by Jennifer Causey, available here on etsy in a postcard version.
It may still be gray and lonely out there in Upstate NY, but spring is here and I'm jumping in to the newness, the green, the growing--above and below ground. In honor of this morning's birdsong heard in my backyard, here's Wendell Berry:
FOR THE FUTURE
Planting trees early in spring,
we make a place for birds to sing
in time to come. How do we know?
They are singing here now.
There is no other guarantee
that singing will ever be.

See, I told you March was when we could see the light at the end of the cold, dark tunnel. Don't tell my dad you have birds; he'll try to get you to feed them next winter.
